Samovar awards page. The tech glory

"The Register" receives its award for the best tech news site. And it's from UK. Is it the best view to Silicon valley when you live across the Ocean?
The biggest Babylon Tower. NT 5.0. I still can't believe that you can fix a bug in 35 million lines project without crash all bricks that are build over it. Maybe it's better to document a bug than to try to fix it?

The Ultimate SuperConductor PetaFlop MegaComputer! Will be designed by the small group of scientists lead by Stony Brook. It will consume TeraAmper and will sink in liquid helium Ocean. How deep yours pockets are, Uncle Sam?

The most strange failed deal. Microsoft offered 3COM to sell its PalmOS. What's wrong with Windows CE, Bill?
The fastest growing OS? The most flexible OS? OS most widely used in all Computer Science departments?... Boring. Linux receives its award simply because I use it. Why not?
IBM is here for the most advanced processor technology. Copper is done, silicon germanium on the way. IBM will produce UltraSparc for Sun and probably Alpha for Digital/Compaq. Is Merced on the line?
The most crazy IT adviser. Gartner Group receive its award after the talk of its vice-president Smith at IT/Expo in Orlando. "It's like a nuclear weapon that will eventually annihilate Java" said Smith about the "Intermediate Language" project of Microsoft. In fact that's extension of the COM interface to Unix. But if MS plans the world domination, why porting its software to dying Unix is so important?
Alpha is the next hero. The question is: how to make profit from the best processor in the world?
The most brave project. The small Patriot Scientific designed the first in practical industry embedded RISC Java processor, with mixed stack and register design. But it seems that nobody needs it.. Why? The best way to make a profit from nothing knows the RedHat's president Bob Young. He sad that he would reduce the OS market from $5 billion to $500 millions. Can you do the same with hardware, Bob?
The most hyper-active Internet software developer. It seems that in nearest future Internet will be populated by Oracle software. What IBM is waiting for?
The open contest: The best OS for your cellular phone. The Rumor of the month. "The Register" tell us that The most hidden startup Transmeta rumored to compete with Pentium as the best NT CPU in fact is developing the multicore CPU as the preemtion of PowerPC. Is it true, Linus?
The competitors are: PalmOS from 3COM, EPOC from Psion, Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola, Linux from people, Corel, Cobalt, HP and few more, Windows CE from MS, HP and a lot of companies, JavaOS from Sun, IBM, Ericsson and some others. If in next few years cellular phones will have 500 Mgz CPU (which one?) 12 Gig disc from IBM, 32 Megs of RAM, why not to put Solaris there? The most optimistic view on Windows. "Customers want choice," said Oracle's Allen Miner, vice president of strategic business development, "So its doubtful that Windows will ever go away completely." Thank you Allen, we were so afraid!
The most contradictory technology is Java. Developers Love it, users Hate it. Conclusion: if you want to make money on Java - sell it to developers.
